Telecommuting

So, this telecommuting thing. I love it, I really do. But I have found I really have to turn down the ADD settings in my brain, if I do not sit in the office and focus, then I am like... oh, have a load of laundry to do, dogs need to go out, must go to gym, look at this website, check this out, is that a car outside? etc etc. It is tough to maintain focus with the windows open, for instance, I have learned. Too many noises/goings on to be concerned with...

So, I consciously make an effort to be even MORE plugged in on my telecommuting Mondays. I do not want anyone at the office to ever think I am not available to them except physically.

The other negative is you cannot get immediate satisfaction. If someone decides to ignore an email, and then doesn't answer the phone when you call (with a 301 number versus 202), then you just have to wait. You can have them paged, but then you would be considered a nuisance. :-)

That's what I have learned in my short time telecommuting. So far. We'll see how it goes as we near year end and the audit which starts Nov 30.

Trainwreck!

Okay, not really, but Ken did wreck my car last night. We had switched cars yesterday because I was off and he needed the emissions inspection done (because he is incapable of doing it himself) on his car, so I voluteered to do it for him ($30 in late fees, yay, on a $14 inspection, grrrr).

So, short story long, he had to go to his Dad's after the gym last night because Dad was having wireless issues (the Vonage phones wouldn't work). On his way home, he was at a red light next to a left turn lane, and the turn lane changed, and he wasn't paying attention and pulled into the interesection striking a car turning left from the other direction. I TOTALLY know that he was checking email at the time on his crackberry, but everytime I bring it up, he gets pissy, so this is a 'pick your battles' kind of issue. The "good" things about it is thank God no one was injured in either car, and the car, while looking like crap, is still drivable (and the top still goes down, so there's that).

The bad side is our insurance is SURE to go up, because he is at fault. And, since it was my car, MY insurance in particular will probably go up. You know, because paying $1100 dollars a year isn't enough. Ugh.

Other good news is that I went three time to the gym in the past week since I joined. Now, some would say that sucks, but I used to have a hard time doing it. So the goal is to keep it up. I can definitely feel it, although working my biceps is a little challenging. I am working them to failure, starting curls with 30 pound dumbbells, and then doing "upsets" with 35 pound dumbells, but today, *nothing*. No pain, no fatigue, no satisfying yeah, worked them hard feel... my chest, on the other hand, might fall off at any moment today. :)

So, if you ever decide, after 9 months away from the gym, to go back, let me advise:

Do NOT think you can lift the same weight you stopped with. You will be able to do it, but will wreck your muscles so much that you will not be able to get out of bed the next day.

Do NOT think since you were running about 2-3 miles a day just for fun before that you should run the half mile to the gym, 4 miles on the treadmill, and then run home. Because if you do that, you will be mentally and physically dead the next morning. I barely made it in, and considered calling in sick this morning.

On another note, I look damned sartorial this morning. I have on a seer sucker suit, white shirt, pink bow tie and cuff links, white bucs, and a dark blue leather belt. Smokin, and yeah, GIANT HOMO. Everyone keeps asking if I have a performance tonight. LOL

Life

So, Ken's mom passed away in early May. We always thought his dad would be next (my dad was LAST may), and the moms, well, we thought they would probably outlive us.

But alas, she got pneumonia and was in the hospital, they made all the right decisions (ventilator, but only because she might get better), then when it was either time for permanent ventilator (with very little quality of life) they took her off, and she passed away a couple days later. It was tough on Ken, but ultimately brought us stronger. I mean, its a "who the hell cares if he puts his coffee cup in the dishwasher, we are dealing with death here" kind of feeling. We both have relied on each other in these times.

So, now, the tough part; dealing with his Dad, who, while in a retirement community, doesn't have assisted living care or anything like that, is still dealing with Parkinson's related mobility issues (think: walker), and has never prepared a meal for himself in 55 years of marriage. It has been a struggle, and except for last weekend at Rehomo, which really recharged our batteries, we have been taking care of Dad on the weekends. I am not complaining, having Dad's sister and Ken's sister to take care of him weekdays has allowed us to, well, work.

But what's the alternative? A nursing home? Hells no. So, in the meantime, I will work out not as much as I'd like, run hardly at all, but do what needs to be done. We owe this at the least to those who took care of us all those years.

Thankfully, the other side of things, my mom, is still strong as an ox, even while dealing with Lupus and blood clots and whatever the hell next. I'm hoping to get her genes.

John McCain dating and proposing to his second wife while still married to his disfigured first wife destroys the sanctity of marriage.

We can’t redefine marriage
• The concept of “redefining marriage” is a linguistic distraction designed to pull the spotlight away from the underlying hatred behind “traditional marriage” propaganda. Giving gay people equal access to the rights and protections of marriage will not change the definition of marriage. Nothing about gay marriage alters heterosexual marriage. The definition of marriage between heterosexuals will remain exactly the same.
• If we hadn’t redefined marriage in the 1960s, Barack Obama would still be a bastard in the 19 states that wouldn’t allow the interracial marriage of his parents when he was born.
• Ronald Reagan, the divorced patron saint of the modern conservative theocracy, redefined marriage into something temporary and easily revocable in 1969 when as governor of California he signed the Family Law Act, leading the United States into an era of no-fault divorce.
• Other historical “redefinitions” of marriage involve the transition of marriage from a business relationship between families to a property relationship between a man and his wife and then to a relationship based on relative equality between a man and a woman.

Marriage is the foundation of society
One could argue that the foundation of society is a successful public health policy. Or a working economy. Or an equitable system of education. Whether marriage—specifically heterosexual-only marriage as this argument goes—is also some kind of "foundation" depends on a broad range of definitions of foundation. In any case, this argument is little more than a hollow platitude designed to sound meaningful when other arguments against equality implode for lack of substance.

Homosexuality is not natural
Wrong. Since it occurs randomly in nature across all species without any identifiable outside influence, homosexuality is completely natural. Religion, on the other hand, is created entirely by the human imagination. Which makes it, by definition, unnatural.

Americans think gay people are gross
Americans think obese people, pregnant teenagers and Newt Gingrich are gross. And they’re allowed to marry as often as they want.

Gay marriage teaches children it’s OK to be gay
Exactly. Just as organized religion teaches children it’s OK to embrace the supernatural over the real. And there are no laws against that.

Marriage is designed to produce children
No it’s not.
• Straight marriage laws carry no reproductive requirements.
• If it did, infertile or menopausal people wouldn’t be allowed to marry.

Children deserve a mother and a father
That's how they're usually made, yes. But since marriage is not contingent on producing children–and vice versa—this argument is just an emotional-heartstrings-flavored distraction deployed to change the subject when other anti-equality arguments are exposed for their implausibility and desperation.

Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to men marrying dogs
No it won’t. And anyone who makes this imbecilic argument is not emotionally or intellectually fit to participate in any conversation that affects public policy.

If we allow men to marry men …
The slippery slope argument uses wild conjecture in place of reason and fact, making it the last vestige of the intellectually desperate. Since it’s based on nothing but imagination, the arguments can go in an infinite number of directions. And these arguments are easily trumped: If we allow people to vote on gay marriages, we’ll have to allow people to vote on marriages between adulterers and divorcees. If we allow Christian mythology to influence our laws, we’ll have to allow Wiccan theology to influence our laws as well. If we follow Christian mandates on marriage, we’ll also have to follow Christian mandates on adultery, divorce and the subjugation of women.

The institution of marriage is under attack by gay people
No it’s not. Gay people want to emulate marriage. The only people attacking the institution of marriage are the people currently allowed to be married: heterosexuals who divorce or commit acts of domestic abuse and adultery.

Marriage should be decided by the states
No it shouldn’t. Speed limits should be decided by the states. Sales taxes should be decided by the states. School calendars should be decided by the states. People’s relationships, legal protections and tax benefits shouldn’t change when they drive across state lines.

Marriage should be decided by voters
No it shouldn’t. Individual marriages should be decided only by the two people entering into them.

We should just agree to disagree
People “agree to disagree” about frivolous things like music or sports teams or religious beliefs. The active denial of legal equality is not frivolous; it has real consequences for real families. Either you’re for marriage equality or you’re against equality. There’s no room for friendly disagreement in the equation.

No offense, but I don’t think gay people should marry
Believing that one class of people does not deserve equal protections under the law is extremely offensive. Especially when there is no logical, rational or even plausible reason for your belief.

I don’t hate gay people—I just believe marriage should be between a man and a woman
Denying people equality for nothing more compelling than “belief” is a form of hate. If you work to marginalize gay people, it doesn’t matter whether you act out of malice or selective interpretation of religious dogma. Either way, you are endorsing a system designed to hurt people.

I don’t believe in the homosexual lifestyle
Good. Because there is no such thing as a universal homosexual lifestyle, just like there is no universal heterosexual lifestyle or Christian lifestyle or atheist lifestyle. The “lifestyle” argument is nothing more than a gross overgeneralization built on the implication that gay people are all whores, and it’s used to demonize us in an attempt to justify denying us legal equality.

Marriage is a religious institution
No it’s not.
• Marriage licenses and marriage certificates are issued by governments, not churches.
• If it were, we wouldn’t allow atheists to get married.
• If it were, we wouldn’t allow people to get married by a justice of the peace. Or a ship’s captain. Or an Elvis impersonator.

Gay marriage is not compatible with religious belief
Gay marriage may not be compatible with selective interpretations of some religious traditions. But that has nothing to do with marriage equality. People are certainly free to embrace any religious beliefs they choose. But those beliefs apply only to their believers, and they end the moment they begin to hurt people who choose not to embrace religious theories. An elective belief in a trendy mythology does not give anyone moral authority to deny basic equalities.

Homosexuality is a sin
Only to those who choose to believe in religious dogma. And religious dogma—especially when it’s used to victimize an entire class of people—is not appropriate in a discussion of legal equality.

Churches shouldn’t be forced to perform marriages they don’t approve of
They won’t. Churches have always been free to refuse to marry anybody for any reason they dream up: divorce, adultery, religion, race, gender … even basic family snobbery. On top of that, most marriage equality legislation to date includes language specifically permitting churches to continue to engage in this discrimination.

Being forced to accept gay marriages is a form of discrimination
No it’s not. This meaningless argument is simply a distraction tactic designed to make bigots look like victims.

Domestic partnership is the same thing as marriage for gay people
No it’s not. Many rights bestowed on straight married people by institutions ranging from the IRS to insurance companies to private employers are denied to gay people in domestic partnerships. Marriage by any other name is simply not marriage.

I decided to walk the couple of blocks down to the White House, where I thought I would go to the south side and see if I could see Bush greet Obama at the South Portico. However, I didn't make it that far, as I crossed Pennsylvania, I noticed a big crowd outside the gates, staring at the north portico.

It was odd, there were hundreds of people assembled there. I heard one reporter say, "wow, he's just in there and they come like this, how many people is this? A thousand? He's gonna have a hard time getting rid of that messiah reputation if people keep reacting like this to him..."

I took a picture, which doesn't really show how many people are there.

There were a lot of smiles on people's faces, which was nice.

This morning's commute was particularly fun, as we heard from the train operator (well, at least he informed us why we were frequently stopping, that in and of itself is rare) that the train in front of us was broken down and would be "offloaded" at Van Ness. Thats all fine and good. He told us three times to make room for the gazillions of folks that would be coming on board. Three times? Okay, maybe some people are like children and need to be told three times to pick up their Express from the seat next to them. Then, after we pulled into the station, here came the gazillion folks, which takes a minute or two... we continue to sit as he shuts the doors as we continue to sit for a while. Finally he comes on and he says that unfortunately, our train too has issues, and we need to offload it as well. Everyone is pissed at this point, but we all get up and offload, another few minute process. Then he shuts the doors, but the train just sits there. All the while, a nasty nasal woman (I guess the station manager) is screaming, "PLEASE!!!! STAY AWAY FROM THE GRANITE EDGE!!!!!" Then, the doors open and he says, "actually they have cleared this train for service, you may board the train",
which I think led to even the nicest of folks there to roll their eyes. This whole process stretched my commute into an hour. Thanks, metro, for yet another awful ride.

Chock up another one that I cannot believe I have to deal with.

One of my receptionists (I have two that sit there full time and one that "covers" when one of the others has to leave the desk, this was the 'cover' one) came to me and said that there was a bad "fishy" smell at the front desk. Here was the conversation:

Floating Receptionist: "It is really bad."

Russ: "Well, is Michelle (main receptionist) eating fish?"

FR: "No. You don't understand. Its not that kind of smell."

R: "Wait, I'm confused, you said "fish", right?

FRR: "Yes, but no, not that kind."

R: "You have me confused here..."

FRR: .......

R: [lightbulb moment] "Oh God, are you saying what I think you are saying?"

FRR: "Yes, and [other receptionist] agrees too..."

So, yes, that's right, I have to spend part of my Friday afternoon, cruising the reception area, looking nonchalant, smelling for pussy.

Clearly this is in the "Other Duties As Assigned" section of my job description.

So, today was the agreed upon day that we need to clean out the back yard. The annual, "oh my God, it is such a sty, let's shovel the two bags of dog poop out and clean it up" day, and Ken has decided to spend the day at the squad, leaving me to take care of it. Ugh.

Oh well, I could just NOT do it, but that would annoy me even more, especially with the fence falling down back there and everything else that is wrong with it.

I know, whine, whine, whine.

On a completely unrelated note, I am in love with David Archuleta's voice. I would so buy a CD of his stuff. I should note that I do not actually *watch* AI, I just download his performances after the fact. Love him. Wish he would grow a set and realize that he *deserves* the raves that he is getting; the whole "aw, shucks" thing was cute for the first 6 weeks, now he needs to live up to his stardom. :-)

I don't know if I posted here or not about it, but a woman who sits in the next office from me came into work Monday sick as a dog. She was wheezing and coughing and sneezing. More than one person told her to go home. We happen to share the same air handler, so I just tried everything in my power not to get what she had, but...

I got it, alright. I am not sure whether it is just a cold or what, but now I am ridiculously congested, both my head and my chest, and am sneezing and coughing a lot. Poor me. :-( I also am coughing up a lovely color goop.

I also am a basso profundo now. :) I usually sing bass, but can get away with baritone as well. This is the time when I should record all of my voicemail outgoing messages for maximum efficiency. :)

And, I have told sick woman, who got worse before she got better, that I will maim her if she comes into the office in such bad shape again... lol

So, the protesters were dancing all over Conn and K. Then, things got heated as a wedge of police officers (bike police in blue on left, motorcycle officers in lovely orange in middle, and recruits least protected, of course, in black on the right) moved towards the demonstrators.

Some police with a bullhorn (in charge, clearly) started talking with some protesters with bullhorns who apparently were in charge.

All of my coworkers were crowded into the offices watching it go down. The same thing happened at Winston and Strawn, that building beyond the group.

Then, I don't know what happened, but all the police turned around and walked away, seen to the left.

They got about a block away before the bike cops realized they had left their bikes back on the corner within mere feet of the protestors (you can see them in photo one).

Very funny.

Now all the protesters have headed up Connecticut Avenue, I assume to Dupont Circle. I have a photo of that too which I'll put in here too.

Made for a fun late rush hour for a bunch of people, I'm sure, as both 17th AND L streets (both major arteries) were closed for some time.

Totally stolen from someone else... I really don't have time to do this today, but since I would rather do ANYTHING than what I have to do for work...

1. I was born on May 18th in 1965. It was the same day President Lyndon B. Johnson officially annouced the creation of the Head Start program during a speech in the White House Rose Garden.
2. My first pet that I remember was a gerbil, I have no idea what I named him. My first dog was a collie mutt mix I got when I was 10 named Sandy. Hardest I have ever cried was when I had to put down Sandy (by myself) after college while I still lived at home.
3. I grew up in Springfield, thinking that I was completely cosmopolitan. I return there now and am completely mortified.
4. I was born in Alexandria, Virginia.
5. I'm a fierce and protective friend when my own friends are threatened. I had a larger friend in college who used to be treated rudely often by people, and I would often get into fights for her sake.
6. I was more outgoing in college than I am now.
7. My first (real) alcohol was my senior year Spring Break and we drank Chivas Regal and Sprite. I still cannot smell the stuff without my stomach turning.
8. I attended and graduated from Radford University.
9. Our mascot was the Highlander, a scottish man in kilts. Yeah, I know!
10. I graduated with a BBA in Accounting. Well, after a two year stint as a Chemistry major that lasted until Organic Chem did me in.
11. I have lots of plants, two dogs, and a cat. Dogs are Smokey and Maxine, cat is Ginger.
12. I would love to have more plants, but Ken would kill me.
13. My two dogs are aging, and I fully expect to have to deal with some of their health issues in the coming year.
14. When I am with my friend Mike, I have a tendency to do things I would not normally do.
15. Once when on our way home from his birthday party, he convinced me that it would be totally normal for us to take all of our clothes off except our underwear and put the top down (thankfully, in August).

36. When I initially told my mother I was gay, she ran to the bathroom, threw up, and then said something about wishing I hadn't been born (she later apologized for this remark, but it stuck with me).
37. I am pretty liberal.
38. Given my history, it would be wise of me to never run for public office.
39. When I was at college, "Quarterflash" came to our campus.
40. Today, I couldn't name one song they were 'famous' for..
41. When I was a single gay man, I went out frequently, and generally got lucky.

44. I wanted to play the trumpet in elementary school but my dad wanted me to play sax.
45. I took private lessons on piano until I was a sophomore in high school, at which point I stopped to focus on high school choir.
46. I had bad allergies as a child, and had shots until I was 17.
47. Every year, I came down with bronchitis between 2 to 6 times.
48. I missed my brother's high school graduation because I had bronchitis in June of 1979.
49. I have one brother who is 4.5 years older than me.
50. When we were kids, we used to get along; we had a period in our teens where we didn't care for each other much, but we are okay now. All surface stuff, of course.
51. I worked in a pharmacy from the time I was 16 until I was 22.
52. My first job title was clerk.
53. My last job where I made absolutely no money was Accounting Manager for SHRM. It was under my worst boss EVER.
54. I did not try my first taste of alcohol until I was 18 years old.
55. The first guy I really liked was one of my best friends who handled my telling him I liked him really well (for a southern baptist guy). He just simply told me we couldn't be friends anymore.
56. He was the first guy to ever break my heart (but, unfortunately, not the last).
57. I told the first guy I ever slept with that I felt that I had turned to Satan (or something equally stupid).
58. I generally prefer to be a top. Every time I used to pick someone up, they would turn out to be the same. It got to the point where I asked in the first 5 minutes of conversation.
59. I love Mika, so shoot me.
60. I am really bummed out that I did not get to see him in DC, even though my friend had tickets and asked me at the last minute.
61. My usual karaoke repertoire includes "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You" by Elvis.
62. Straight women swoon when I do this at straight bars.
63. I once had a woman ask me out in St. Thomas after singing this song.
64. My first 45 purchase was "Rock Around the Clock". Shut up, it was old then, too!
65. I played it nonstop for 6 months.
66. I love to hate the Redskins. Actually, I love them, but they are painful to watch.
67. As much as I love going, I do not go to the theater NEARLY enough.
68. The first show I attended (with my mother) was Phantom.

71. That being said, I cannot stand some of these 'patriotic' country songs of late.

79. I have never seen Titanic.
80. I love old movies, but rarely watch them.
81. I do not like Wal-Mart and I avoid shopping there. It helps that there isn't one near my house. :)
82. Stephen R. Donaldson is the author that made me enjoy reading. I was SO into that whole Thomas Covenant series.
83. I read about a book a week or so.
84. I am currently slogging my way through "The Inheritance of Loss" by Kiran Desai. I actually might stop reading it soon (as was the fate of only one other book in my life, "Generation X" by Douglas Coupland) as I am halfway through the book and NOTHING of interest has happened. It is painful.
85. I have a subscription to Vanity Fair.
86. I would love to go to Paris at least once in my life.
87. I would love to wear men’s couture, but cannot afford it (and would look ridiculous in it, at my age).

90. In high school, I was often mocked by the other kids because I had braces and acne.
91. After high school, several of the kids who made fun of me told me how amazingly gorgeous I had become. When superlatives were re-done at my 20th anniversary, I was named to stand with the old school hot guys who were renominated for "best looking". I went to the stage, flipped off the entire assemblage, and then went back to my table. I still do not find myself attractive.
92. I LOVE dark chocolate.
93. I love to make homemade cheesecake for special occasions. I have a raspberry swirl one that is consistently met with high marks.

As has been previously established, I sing with the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, DC. We are in production for a show this weekend that is called "That 80's Show" and features music of the decade, and we actually sing to a soundtrack.

Despite my best attempts to actually dislike the show (I mean, really, a soundtrack?!?), I am having SUCH A BALL singing this show. It is SO MUCH FUN.

What is UP with these new "Cylon" busses all around town? Clearly, somewhere they have proven that reminding people of Battlestar Galactica will keep them out of the streets and getting hit by busses (a problem of late in DC).

This city is so beautiful when it snows. And the only excuse for it to be below 50 degrees is snow, so today is a good day. Pretty.

BP was an amazing 166/101 last night; this after a lovely dinner with best friend Michael, and a relatively low stress rehearsal with PF. Oh well, who knows what the heck is wrong with me.

Of course, DC Rescue 3 has shown up again with their boat on top of the truck. Are they expecting to flood the station with water and have to rescue people? I don't get it.

Welcome to old age

Due to the fact that Ken was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure, my friend's partner keeling over dead from a massive heart attack at age 44, and my blood pressure testing high on a portable BP machine, I made an appointment with my doctor. Well, with my nurse practitioner who works for my doctor.

My blood pressure was 154 over 102. WTF?!? It usually is like 124/78...

I guess the house remodel stress is really affecting me. On a positive note, he prescribed Xanax for the stress. :-)

Golden showers triangle business improvement district

So, these "business improvement districts" that have come into being in the past five years or so are generally a good thing. They put folks in handy trusty uniforms on the street level, so Joe Tourist can ask them directional questions and leave me the heck alone.

That is, they are a good thing in that capacity; what I don't like is when the "Ambassadors" hit the streets. The intersection closest to my office, Connecticut and K Streets, is a busy intersection, perhaps one of the city's biggest.

Some time in the past 6 months or so, they started placing a couple of people there to direct traffic, even though there is a light there. It started in the morning and evening rush times, and now, I noticed today, it is an all day thing. Not too much of a worry, except that they have whistles, and they USE them. Continuously, all day.

Today, I had to pick something up a block up K Street, so had to cross the intersection. Not only did the guy scream at me for walking during the walk cycle; he wanted to let cars turn from K onto Connecticut, but then when he let us walk he screamed at me to move (the two feet) into the crosswalk (which is 15 feet wide there).

These people need to be stopped. The damn whistles all day long are annoying enough, but now they are getting nasty. Lord, increase folks minimum wage, and they get all uppity... ;-)

So. Let's review metro's performance this morning. First, a bus catches fire on K street, people run screaming from the scene, despite what the post reports here.

That article also details the crack team (literally, people on crack ;-) ) response that some suspicious luggage got at the Braddock Road station.

On top of this, the Smithsonian station was closed this morning on my commute in; don't get me wrong, I have no problem with a station being closed due to a package, but we were told it was a "disruption" in the station. WTF?

Now, as I sit at my desk at Farragut North, there is a FIRE IN THE STATION. The firetruck (there are about 12 of them) under my office window has repeatedly told me about a fire and smoke near the Connecicut Avenue and L Street entrance (of course there are two on Conn and L, so who knows).

Not a good day for the met`ro.

Update: Wow, must be a real fire because they have the hoses going into the NE corner of Conn and L. They actually have Connecticut Avenue completely closed. And the Park Police just showed up on horseback. Because you know, nothing fights fire better than a man on horseback in a metro station... ?!?!? Ah, the fire truck has just told me the fire is being caused by a short. What's better than spraying water on that?

Update #2: The detail is located here: and the reporter is wrong, the station was briefly closed, because as I went to get coffee, a man was directing folks away. But don't you love it when a touchy feely Post reporter gets stuck on a train? I love how she conveys the hatred of the average Joe for Bush here. :)

Now that I am sure that no one is reading this any longer... ;-)

House update: The basement (praise Jesus) is nearly done. Just some final moulding that needs to be painted and then some cabinet doors affixed. The pool table and theatre seating looks fabulous. The attic still has a bunch `o crap in it, because I need my BMW to move stuff to storage before we begin construction. So we are in limbo, because the BMW dealership has now had my car for two weeks and one day. And I cannot get them to call me to save my life. VOB BMW service sucks!!! You read it here first. Kind of sucks, because I actually used to LOVE their service and even changed 'service teams' (to the "purple" team) when buying this second BMW from them, because I had had SUCH a good experience in the past. Now I am being held hostage by them.

They swore (the last time that they felt the need to call me on Thursday, when the guy also helpfully told me to call U-Haul, GRRRR) that I will have the car by tomrrow, so God only knows whether I will or not at this point.

Maxine continues to mend slowly.

I signed a note today to guarantee a mortgage on Ken's building in NE. I told him it wasn't the smartest thing I have ever done, given I do not have any INTEREST in the building... :) I really am not concerned about it, but surprisingly, he told me that he and his father actually intend on giving me an interest in the company, which I really don't need to have, but that was kind of nice. I am not sure why they would, since I don'technically pay their mortgage, but whatever. Tough enough for me to make my own mortgage, since we re-fied. Of course, I also do realize that if I was out on my own, I would pay the $1800 in rent monthly too, so at least I am getting something out of it.

In that vein, I think having half the mortgage interest on a $450K note probably means that I should up my exemptions by more than I have. I upped them from 0 to 3, but I bet you I wind up higher. I dunno, I could be wrong, we'll see. I need to find a tax planning program. I bet there's one online, I just need to google it.

Saw old friend Kelly a week or so ago, which was nice. Had a bunch of vino and enjoyed ourselves immensely.

My brother's dogs got loose and apparently killed a cat in the neighborhood. Welcome to my white trash family. They have to go to court in November, apparently.

Rehearsal tonight; afterwards I am supposed to go to (Straight) Mike's birthday party at Chaos (drag bingo, doncha know), but I don't think I will wind up making it, I have WAY too much to do around the house, including a minimum of two loads of laundry.

I just wish I had done it over the past 6 years because you could see how much I have (dramatically) aged over the past 5 years or so. So I really enjoy Linda Cropp's new ads for mayor of DC. They basically are saying "yeah, so, we are totally uncharismatic here, don't vote just for someone who is pretty, vote for someone with *substance*." Sad, just sad. Its a house a fire.

That being said, I saw Adrian Fenty walking up 16th street near Wholefoods probably about 2 weeks ago. He looked quite pretty and looks like a nice bod too.
